Tua Tagovailoa didn’t hold back his frustrations, coming at his teammates after a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. The Miami Dolphins quarterback specifically mentioned that he was disappointed when some players showed up late to a players only meeting this past week.

The Dolphins lost by a score of 29-27 to fall to 1-5 on the season. Tagovailoa struggled on the day to finish 21-of-32 passing for 205 yards and one touchdown to three interceptions.

“I think it starts with the leadership and helping articulate that for the guys and what we’re expecting out of the guys,” he said postgame. “We’re expecting this, are we getting that? We have guys showing up to player only meetings late, guys not showing up to player only meetings. There’s a lot that goes into that that. Do we have to make this mandatory? Do we not have to make this mandatory? So it’s a lot of things of that nature that we’ve got to get cleaned up and it starts with the little things like that.”

Miami led 13-9 going into halftime on Sunday but things quickly began to fall apart in the second half. The Chargers scored a touchdown on the first drive of the third quarter to go up 16-13.

Tagovailoa threw an interception on the next drive, giving the ball back to LA, which then scored another touchdown on the ensuing drive. The Dolphins managed to fight back and take a 27-26 lead late in the fourth quarter, but the Chargers would go on to kick a field goal and reclaim the advantage with five seconds remaining. Tagovailoa got the ball back for one last play, where he threw his third interception.

Tua Tagovailoa has been the Dolphins quarterback since 2020 and the team has never finished below eight wins since then. However, they’re not off to a good start this year after missing the playoffs last season. It seems the QB was trying to send a message to his teammates to get them to turn things around before it’s too late.

Miami has now lost back-to-back games since its lone win of the season against the New York Jets in Week 4. We’ll see whether the response from Tagovailoa after Sunday’s defeat can help turn things around, or whether it will only create more problems for a team already falling apart. The Dolphins next face the Cleveland Browns in Week 7.
