Twins OF Byron Buxton blasts home run to complete cycle

The Minnesota Twins entered Saturday two games under .500, attempting to gather a couple of wins before the MLB All-Star break. Byron Buxton will be heading to Atlanta to represent the ball club after his incredible first half. Things somehow just got better for him, putting together a little history against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Buxton blasted a home run off Andrew Heaney, launching the ball out to dead center on an 0-2 pitch. Not just a normal blast, though, as Buxton completed the first cycle in Target Field history. His fifth at-bat of the day, all of which have resulted in hits, saw Buxton get one of each.

A great moment for him to prove he is worthy of the All-Star selection. The home Minnesota crowd was loving it as well, with most fans giving Buxton a standing ovation as he touched home plate. You can check out the full moment here.

To make matters better, the Twins, as a whole, are enjoying a nice day. The lead has been extended to eight runs due to an 11-3 scoreline. Holding on for two more frames will be required but Minnesota would take the series with a win.

Oh, and as MLB’s tweet says, it was Byron Buxton Bobblehead Day at the ballpark. Something about a bobblehead day brings out the best in players, sometimes leading to incredible performances.

Buxton played his high school baseball in the Peach State and was going to stay close to home for his college days. The Georgia Bulldogs earned a commitment from Buxton but he never made it to Athens. Minnesota wound up taking the outfielder with the No. 2 overall pick back in 2012.

Since then, there have been plenty of ups and downs along the way. Reminaing healthy has been difficult for Buxton throughout his career. Just twice has he surpassed 100 games played. His career high is 140 back in 2017, followed by last season’s 103.

Buxton has thankfully stayed healthy in 2025 and the results are showing. He entered Saturday with 20 home runs and 53 RBIs, adding an OPS of .833. An OPS+ of 138 does a better job explaining how he is doing compared to the rest of the league.

Numbers are now only going to go up after hitting for the cycle. Two singles, a double, triple, and now a home run.
