Ty Gibbs evades media as he's being chased for answers on Denny Hamlin after Kansas qualifying

When it comes to talking about the Denny Hamlin drama, Ty Gibbs is doing the most to avoid answering questions. Gibbs took off in a golf cart as NASCAR reporters attempted to get a comment from the young driver.
Denny Hamlin briefly talked about the Ty Gibbs drama during his media availability at Kansas earlier today. However, Gibbs didn’t want to speak about the meetings the JGR organization had this week.
According to Jeff Gluck of The Athletic, Gibbs saw reporters waiting on pit road. He then turned around and went the other way. As Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports attempted to ask a question, Gibbs rode off in a golf cart without comment.
At times, Ty Gibbs isn’t the biggest fan of NASCAR media. He keeps many of his answers short and simple. Now, in the wake of controversy, Gibbs is avoiding questions.
Typically, most drivers have to go to the media center after practice and qualifying to speak to the media in scrums. So, there is still a possibility that we will hear from him later today. For now, he is going to keep to himself and not answer questions.
Ty Gibbs did not have the speed that his teammates had in practice or qualifying. He was the fourth of the JGR drivers, but will still start P8 on Sunday.
Denny Hamlin addresses Ty Gibbs meeting
During his media availability, Denny Hamlin was asked about this week’s meeting with JGR about the New Hampshire incident. Hamlin didn’t reveal details of the meeting, but provided more information than Ty Gibbs.
“I think they’re in a good place. You know, we had some meetings this week,” Hamlin said at Kansas to the media. “I thought they were all productive meetings, but obviously, the guts of that obviously, going to need to be confidential.”

Denny Hamlin wouldn’t reveal what was said. He did give a little bit of a glimpse as far as how the meeting went. Everyone was able to speak their piece.
“Yeah, all the drivers had an opportunity to speak and try to come up with a plan, and I think we did our best to come up with one,” Hamlin continued. “That’s it, that’s all I have.”
Of course, Hamlin was asked if he had regrets or if he would do things differently. To no surprise, he said that he would have tried to handle it better.
“I mean, certainly,” Hamlin said. “Absolutely. I definitely got hot under the collar, and it went too far on my end, and certainly there was things that I wish I could have done a little differently.”
I’m not sure how productive that meeting was if Ty Gibbs still doesn’t want to talk. As long as there aren’t any more issues on the track, then I guess it was productive.
