Ty Gibbs reacts to latest engine issues for Toyota, Joe Gibbs Racing

The engine issues continue for Ty Gibbs on the racetrack, and the NASCAR driver is just hoping to make it all the way through the Brickyard 400 at this point.
Gibbs had to pit following an issue with his engine, but his team hasn’t quite been able to figure out what’s going wrong.
“I have nothing; the shit box is blowing up,” Ty Gibbs said, according to RACER magazine’s Kelly Crandall. “God almighty.”
He added further commentary, telling his team that the engine seems to pick up power and then just stops. The crew told Gibbs they’re not sure what the problem is and that he needs to nurse it to the end.
That’s obviously less than ideal, particularly since it’s not the first time Ty Gibbs has had engine issues in recent weeks.
Just last week he had an engine blow on him at Pocono, ending his day. In fact, at least one NASCAR veteran was already sounding the alarm on Joe Gibbs Racing’s Toyota team following that mishap.
“I am hitting the panic button on this one, and that is the Toyota engines,” Harvick said on the Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour podcast. “Because we’ve seen the 11 blow up, we’ve seen the 20 blow up, we’ve seen the 54 blow up. We’ve seen a number of engine issues with the Toyotas, and I think it’s just, it seems sporadic, right? So they have been in high-RPM, shifting racetracks that it seems like they’ve showed up at.

“I would be panicked.”
First Christopher Bell blew his engine at Gateway, taking him out of contention in the Enjoy Illinois 300. Then Denny Hamlin blew his engine at Sonoma. Ty Gibbs followed that last week at Pocono.
Now Gibbs is having more issues, and the timing couldn’t be worse as he tries to defend his positioning above the playoff cut line.
Harvick had noted the timing could be problematic for Ty Gibbs and company.
“The thing I go back to is they have speed,” Kevin Harvick said. “And you can tell that he knows he has speed with his interviews and things after the race. Ty knows that they have speed, he’s not worried about that. But I am worried about their engines.
“And I am worried if that sporadic blow-up comes at the wrong time in the playoffs. Been there, done that and all of a sudden you’re in a bad position.”
