Ty Gibbs unveils Daytona paint scheme featuring Ronald Reagan for upcoming movie

Joe Gibbs Racing announced Tuesday that Ty Gibbs’ No. 54 Toyota will be sponsored by “REAGAN,” the upcoming movie starring Dennis Quaid, for this Saturday’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway.
“REAGAN,” which opens worldwide on Aug. 30, details how Ronald Reagan overcame the odds to become the 40th president of the United States. Reagan was in attendance for the 1984 July race at Daytona when Richard Petty won his 200th and final NASCAR Cup Series race. 40 years later, Gibbs hopes to bring his Reagan-inspired car to Victory Lane at Daytona.
“It’s great to have REAGAN on our car for Daytona,” Gibbs said in statement.” Hopefully we can put the car in victory lane much like when President Reagan was at Daytona 40 years ago.”
The car features imagery from the movie poster with Quaid’s face front and center on the hood and down the side. Quaid called Gibbs “the next NASCAR superstar” in the official press release.

“Ty Gibbs is the next NASCAR superstar,” Quaid said. “The Coke Zero 400 is a global stage and I’m thrilled the fans will get a glimpse of REAGAN during the race. These fans are my kind of people, and I know they’ll be inspired by the remarkable story in this film.”
Ty Gibbs looking to clinch playoff spot at Daytona
Gibbs, 21, is coming off a third-place finish in Monday’s race at Michigan. He enters the ever-unpredictable Coke Zero Sugar 400 just 39 points above the playoff cutline. Gibbs had one of the fastest cars at Michigan but came up just short of winning his first career Cup Series race.
“I feel like we definitely were in contention for sure,” Gibbs said after the race. “I needed to get up sooner off of two to clear the 24 [William Byron]. Just missed it by a little bit. After that, it takes a lap to get momentum.”
