The month of July was filled with big wrecks and injuries in dirt racing. Tyler Courtney and Stewart Friesen share that in common. The two drivers have both been sidelined following absolutely horrific wrecks in the last month.

Stewart Friesen is out for the rest of the NASCAR Truck Series season. His fractured leg and pelvis are going to keep him out of his No. 52 truck. Kaden Honeycutt is taking over after being released from Niece Motorsports.

Tyler Courtney, driver of the No. 7 NOS Energy car for Clauson-Marshall Racing, was involved in his own wreck in at Eldora in mid-July. He’s been sidelined since and had to undergo surgery.

During Door Bumper Clear this week, Courtney was the guest. He spoke about the Friesen wreck, which he saw as he continues his own recovery.

“It was disgusting. It was disgusting. For some reason, ten years ago, I was teammates with Stewart in a sprint car in California. So, I kinda have somewhat of a relationship with him. So, I messaged him, and I think he was on the same medicine I was in the hospital there. He was making some good jokes back and forth with me.

“But he said, ‘Luckily I’ve got some pretty good friends that are getting me to a great place in New York there,’ that are going to take care of him pretty well. Yeah, his injuries were definitely pretty serious. I think, just like me, he was just super happy and lucky that it wasn’t worse. But yeah, I can’t think of a crash that I’ve really seen that was more brutal than that across any series in a long time.”

If Tyler Courtney says Stewart Friesen wreck was bad, it was bad

If Tyler Courtney is saying the Stewart Friesen wreck was “disgusting” after what he went through, that puts it into perspective. Both drivers went through hell and uncertain circumstances. Once cars start flipping or getting in the air or being engulfed in fire, it’s a bad situation. So, it’s great that neither driver had worse injuries.

For Friesen, it is another tough moment in a year that has tested him and his willingness to compete in NASCAR. Until he won at Michigan earlier this season, Freisen had gone years without winning, and this year, he was being wrecked out of races to no fault of his own.

Before that big win, Friesen was questioning his place in the Truck Series. Friesen is 42 years old. No one is trying to push him out of the sport, but there are definitely going to be conversations about his future behind the wheel in the near future if they haven’t already started to happen.

Stewart Friesen is back at home recovering now. He went through surgery, which was successful. Now, the focus is on the next steps ahead.
