Tyler Guyton injury update: Cowboys starter feared to have torn ACL per report

Dallas Cowboys offensive tackle Tyler Guyton is feared to have suffered a torn ACL, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The team is still waiting to confirm the diagnosis after Guyton went down in practice on Monday.
Guyton had to be helped off the field by team trainers after getting rolled up on a pass play. If the ACL tear is confirmed, it would be a brutal blow to the Cowboys offense.
Guyton is the starting left tackle for Dallas and getting ready to enter his second season after the team took him in the first round of last year’s draft out of Oklahoma. He played in 15 games with 11 starts as a rookie.
Last week, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott spoke about Guyton, who had an up-and-down rookie season. He had high hopes for the improvements that the offensive lineman could make in his second season.
“That disappointment, he’s channeled it all into motivation, and that’s his fuel of getting better,” Prescott said, per Adam Schultz of Athlon Sports. “You saw glimpses of it in the offseason to now as we’re getting into this training camp. It’s continuing to grow. You’re only going to see it more when we get these pads on and he can really be a lineman again.”
Major change emerges in Tyler Guyton injury report
Not long after Rapoport’s initial reports, further updates emerged that claimed the injury was not as bad as originally thought. According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Guyton still has his ACL intact after going through an MRI.

Instead, it’s a bone fracture and surgery will not be required. Now facing a much shorter recovery timeline, it’s a major sigh of relief for the Cowboys.
“Tyler Guyton’s ACL is intact after an MRI, according to a source,” Archer said via X. “He has a bone fracture and will not require surgery. Looking at a 4-6 week recovery. Cowboys get better than expected news.”
On the short end of the four-six week recovery, Guyton will be ready well before Dallas opens the regular season against Philadelphia on Sept. 4. If things stretch into six weeks, he would get back on the Monday of Week 2, ahead of a matchup vs. the New York Giants. Potentially two NFC East opponents the Cowboys could be without their left tackle.
For now, taking positive news on the injury front is what they will have to do. Not what anybody wanted heading into the day but given the circumstances, it feels like a win for the Cowboys.
