For a few moments there, the Dallas Cowboys thought they lost offensive tackle Tyler Guyton for the season. Reports emerged saying Guyton tore his ACL after getting rolled up on during Monday’s practice. More tests were still needed and thankfully, positive news came back.

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Guyton still has his ACL intact after going through an MRI. Instead, it’s a bone fracture and surgery will not be required. Now facing a much shorter recovery timeline, it’s a major sigh of relief for the Cowboys.

“Tyler Guyton’s ACL is intact after an MRI, according to a source,” Archer said via X. “He has a bone fracture and will not require surgery. Looking at a 4-6 week recovery. Cowboys get better than expected news.”

On the short end of the four-six week recovery, Guyton will be ready well before Dallas opens the regular season against Philadelphia on Sept. 4. If things stretch into six weeks, he would get back on the Monday of Week 2, ahead of a matchup vs. the New York Giants. Potentially two NFC East opponents the Cowboys could be without their left tackle.

For now, taking positive news on the injury front is what they will have to do. Not what anybody wanted heading into the day but given the circumstances, it feels like a win for the Cowboys.

More on Tyler Guyton, Cowboys offensive line situation

Guyton was the first-round selection of the Cowboys last year, poised to take over as the franchise left tackle. Not everything went smoothly as a rookie, fighting through some early-career struggles. But expectations are high heading into 2025 as many believe Guyton will take over the position full-time.

Playing next to a former All-Pro certainly helps his situation. Tyler Smith was taken in the previous first round, finding a comfortable spot at left guard. On the flip side, Tyler Booker was this past year’s first-round selection out of Alabama. He figures to start at right guard following a neck injury to Robert Jones.

Those are three guys the Cowboys hope are with the franchise for many years to come, once again building the offensive line through the NFL Draft. Hopefully, we will get to see them on the field together sooner rather than later.

Brian Schottenheimer has been honest about the offensive line’s role. He knows if the Cowboys are going to have success moving forward, they need to be great up front.
