Tyler Reddick reacts to frustrating P2 at Darlington, reveals what Michael Jordan told him after race

Tyler Reddick came very close to winning the Southern 500, finishing second at Darlington Raceway on Sunday night. After the race, Reddick reacted to the second-place finish and revealed what happened at the end.

“It’s frustrating to finish second … I wish I could’ve been a little bit closer, but when I drove it off in there, I was already sideways, and I learned last spring that doesn’t work,” Tyler Reddick said on the USA Network broadcast. “A good, solid day, hopefully one day we win at Darlington.”

Despite not winning the Darlington race, Reddick moved up the playoff standings with the strong finish, and he did it in front of his boss, 23XI Racing co-owner Michael Jordan. Reddick was asked what Jordan told him after the race.

“He reminded me it’s a long race,” he revealed. “I pretty much forgot that me and [Josh] Berry got together on the first lap … this race could’ve been disastrous, but we survived that. We’ll turn these seconds into a victory one day.”

Reddick entered the playoffs in 15th place but left Darlington in fourth in the playoff standings behind Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin and Darlington winner Chase Briscoe. He would love to win one of the next two races to advance in the playoffs and earn his first victory of the year.

During the NASCAR Playoff Media Day last week, Reddick explained how he can win the Cup Series championship. “Pretty much don’t do what we did the first 26 races,” Reddick said while laughing. “We’ve been in a position to win and lose, we just – don’t take ourselves out. Yeah, there’s plenty of things on a more serious note to go over and look at how we’ve been doing things. Everyone on the team has been looking into that, working hard, reflecting. And, yeah, the word reset has been thrown around a lot today. I feel like that’s a good way for us to look at it as well.”
