Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill exited Monday night’s contest against the New York Jets, being carted off the field and later transported to a local hospital. He suffered a gruesome knee injury, and now we’re learning a bit more about what exactly happened.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, “Tyreek Hill is set to undergo major reconstruction surgery today for multiple torn ligaments, part of the fallout from that gruesome injury he suffered last night. It is a dislocated knee, it is a torn ACL and more for Tyreek Hill, who somehow was smiling on the cart as he left the field,” he stated.

Mike McDaniel said he was cracking jokes with teammates, showing leadership in that moment. Suffice to say, Tyreek Hill’s 2025 season is over, and there are certainly questions about whether or not he will be ready for the start of 2026 — and whether he will be on the Dolphins at that point.

“He does have a $5 million roster bonus and an $11 million injury guarantee that’s set to kick in if he is on the roster the third day of the league year in March. However, there is no injury guarantee at this point. It’s possible the Dolphins could move on.

“Tyreek Hill, now 32 years old, facing a long road to recovery, much more complicated than just a torn ACL. And for the Dolphins, coming off a really important win for that organization last night, now they move ahead without their top wide receiver.”

Hill’s injury occurred during the third quarter as he was tackled and landed awkwardly. His leg was visibly bent in an unnatural position. It was one of the more gruesome looking injuries we’ve seen in a while. He was in good spirits at least, waving to fans at Hard Rock Stadium as the cart took him away.

Prior to his injury, Hill led the Dolphins with six receptions for 67 yards. The eight-time Pro Bowler had 15 catches for 198 yards and a touchdown through the first three games of this season, where Miami was winless.

Regardless, a season-ending injury for Hill is a devastating outcome for both he and the Dolphins. Hill, the NFL‘s leading receiver in 2023, was looking to bounce back after a disappointing 2024 campaign.

With Hill out, Miami is down its biggest weapon on offense. They will look for Jaylen WaddleMalik Washington and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine to step up in his absence, and perhaps look to the trade market or free agency for some extra help.

All told, Miami was off to an 0-3 start to this season entering Monday’s contest, and now face an even bigger uphill battle to turn things around in light of the injury to Hill. At least they held on for their first win of the season against the Jets, but beyond that it’s anyone’s guess how they’ll perform.
