Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has confirmed that Miami WR Tyreek Hill suffered a dislocated knee during Monday Night Football against the New York Jets. McDaniel revealed that Hill will spend Monday night in the hospital.

While the dislocation is the preliminary diagnosis, NFL insider Ian Rapoport added that it’s likely “far worse” than just dislocated. He said that similar injuries “often comes with multiple ligament years.” This doesn’t bode well for the Dolphins wideout, who’s injury looked gruesome on the live broadcast.

Hill was injured right after making a diving catch near the sideline for a 10-yard gain. Jets safety Malachi Moore made the tackle on the play and after the tackle, Hill’s leg appeared to be bent at an awkward angle.

After spending some time on the ground with training staff surrounding him, Hill was put on a cart and taken to the hospital. The Dolphins star wideout was shown on the broadcast being wheeled out of the stadium with a brace on his leg.

He was leading the Dolphins in receptions and receiving yards at the time of his injury. He left the game after six receptions for 67 yards.

The injury occurred early in the third quarter and despite having to play without its star wide receiver, Miami defeated New York 27-21 after leading by two scores for most of the second half. The victory is good for the Dolphins’ first win of the season, improving them to 1-3.

Meanwhile, the Jets drop to 0-4 on the season. They’ve lost three of those games by one score.

For Hill, he was beginning his 10th season in the NFL, and fourth with the Dolphins. In 2024, he played in all 17 regular season games for Miami, who missed out on the postseason after an 8-9 finish to the 2024-25 season. He ended the year with 959 yards, the first time he finished under 1,000 yards since 2019 when he was with the Kansas City Chiefs.

As he begins his injury rehab process, the Dolphins will move forward with Jaylen Waddle as its WR1 in his place. Waddle had three-straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons to begin his NFL career, but fell short of that smark in 2024. With Hill expected to miss time, Waddle could find himself recording inflated receiving numbers moving forward.

Looking ahead, the Dolphins will take on the Carolina Panthers on the road during Week 5. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
