Tyreek Hill injury update: Report reveals stunning change in WR's future with Miami Dolphins

Tyreek Hill’s 2025 season is officially over — and his future with the Miami Dolphins may now be in jeopardy as well. The star wide receiver underwent successful reconstructive surgery on his injured knee earlier this week, marking the beginning of what’s expected to be a long recovery process.
According to his agent Drew Rosenhaus, Hill’s surgery “went very well according to his doctors.” The 31-year-old dislocated his left knee and suffered damage to multiple ligaments, including a torn ACL. Rosenhaus told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Hill “will play next season,” with the “realistic goal” being a return by the start of 2026.
Hill sustained the gruesome injury during this past Monday night’s win over the New York Jets, leaving the field on a cart before being hospitalized overnight. In true Hill fashion, he was smiling and joking with teammates on his way off, which Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel later praised.
“It hasn’t been deemed to be anything beyond this surgery, and we’re very hopeful for it to turn out well,” McDaniel said, per Pro Football Talk. “It’s just executing this procedure and seeing what happens from there.”
However, even if Hill makes a full recovery from his injuries, he might not return in a Dolphins uniform next season. CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones reported that Miami could release Hill before the start of the 2026 league year, citing the structure of his contract.
“An outright release before the start of the 2026 league year was always on the table regardless of injury,” Jones wrote. Hill’s deal, which is currently a three-year extension worth $90 million, carries a massive $52 million cap hit during the final year. However, none of that money is guaranteed in the event of injury.

League sources reportedly told Jones they believe it’s “next to impossible” for Miami to keep Hill on the roster by March 2026. That’s when $16 million in salary and bonuses would become guaranteed, if he’s still under contract. His extension ultimately pays out $52.6 million over two years, with the final season viewed as “mostly cosmetic,” per Jones.
All told, Hill is remaining optimistic, despite the uncertainty he’s been faced with. Before his surgery, he shared a heartfelt message with fans from his hospital bed.
“Keep your boy in your prayers. You guys have been awesome. Fins Nation, just the whole entire NFL have been amazing, sending me lots of love, lots of prayers. I’m absolutely honored, granted the situation,” Hill stated. “I love you guys so much, and hope to see you soon.”
In four games this season, Hill recorded 21 catches for 265 yards and a touchdown. His absence leaves a massive hole in Miami’s offense — not just now, but for their future plans. We’ll see what the coming year holds for the star wide receiver.
