Tyreek Hill relives predicting his No. 1 NFL rankings spot in 2017, reacts to honor

On Friday, the NFL released Top 100 Players list ahead of the 2024 campaign. Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was the No. 1 player on the prestigious list. While many fans were stunned by the announcement, Hill always expected to reel in the honor.
“It’s been a long time coming. I said I was gonna get this since I was a rookie, bro,” Hill said. “This is the first time the receiver ever did this too now that I’m thinking about this, man. I think I’m a Soulja Boy at this point.”
In 2017, when Hill was only entering his second season in the NFL, the lightning-fast WR declared he deserved the No. 1 spot over at-the-time New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Now, seven years later, Hill’s words have come to fruition.
“Hill becomes the first wide receiver to grace the No. 1 spot in the Top 100’s 14-year history following a spectacular season when he flirted with Calvin Johnson’s single-season receiving record (1,964),” NFL.com wrote. “He led the league with 1,799 receiving yards (on 119 receptions) and 13 receiving touchdowns, but a late-season ankle injury hampered his run at history.
“It’s well known that speed is the name of Hill’s game, and the Dolphins exploited his skill set to perfection in 2023 with an incredible metric that best describes his prolific campaign: 602 receiving yards on quick passes (time to throw is less than 2.5 seconds) of 10-plus air yards, which was 308 yards more than the next pass catcher, per Next Gen Stats.

“Megatron’s record is no longer an impossible feat thanks to the four-time All-Pro; the same can now be said for wideouts yearning to reach the pinnacle of the Top 100, all thanks to the Cheetah.”
Dolphins working on extension for Tyreek Hill
The Miami Dolphins are still working on a contract to keep Hill with the franchise for the foreseeable future.
While speaking to the media about his potential future contract, Hill explained that his priority is going to be staying with the Dolphins for the rest of his career instead of potentially maximizing what he can make as a player.
“Ensuring I’m a Dolphin for life,” Hill said. “That’s No. 1. That’s priority No. 1, man. This is obviously the best situation for myself and the family. I don’t think it could get any better, whether it’s just to live in an establishment in the state and the taxes. Everything. The weather. Everything that comes with just living in Miami is just beautiful, man. We love it.”
