Tyrese Maxey gives out 3,000 meals in Philadelphia ahead of Thanksgiving
Tyrese Maxey is giving back once again this holiday season. To begin Thanksgiving week, the Philadelphia 76ers star, sponsored by the Tyrese Maxey Foundation, is handing out 3,000 meals to local families in need.
It’s the fourth year in a row that Maxey has hosted a turkey day giveaway. The event took place at the Alan Horwitz “Sixth Man” Center.
“Philadelphia has given so much to me, and this is just one way I can give back,” Maxey said in a statement to On3’s Nick Schultz. “These families deserve to have a full Thanksgiving meal, and I am glad my Foundation and I can help.”
The Tyrese Maxey Foundation’s is centered around the empowering the youth community through basketball. The TMF works alongside local youth through basketball camps and other activities in an attempt to teach children more than just athletic skills.
It also helps support families of youth athletes through initiatives like Maxey’s turkey drive. With Thanksgiving coming up on Thursday, it was a perfect opportunity to give back.
“Our goal is just really to do what we can to empower the youth,” said Denyse Maxey, the 76ers star’s mother and foundation’s executive director. “… We want to make sure that they have what they need today to develop into the leaders for tomorrow.”
