Karl Anthony Towns sets new franchise record
In an impressive road win against San Antonio, Towns’ historic third quarter set up a night he will never forget. Towns third-quarter barrage of 32 points is the fourth-most points in a single quarter in the last 25 years of NBA history.
“Karl-Anthony Towns scored 32 points in the 3rd quarter, the 4th-most points in a single quarter over the last 25 seasons. Klay Thompson (37 in 3rd vs SAC), Kevin Love (34 in 1st vs POR) and Carmelo Anthony (33 in 3rd vs MIN) are the only players with more in that span,” stated ESPN’s Stats and Info Twitter account.

His 32-point quarter set the stage for an incredible finish to his night, ending the game with 60 points and 17 rebounds. For historical context, 60 points and 17 rebound nights have only happened a handful of times by the majority of the NBA, outside of the legendary Wilt Chamberlain. The only players who have ever reached the lofty stat line that Towns posted on Monday are Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal, Karl Malone, George Mikan and Elgin Baylor.
Except for Baylor, each player that has recorded a 60 point, 17 rebound night has done so only once. Baylor accomplished the incredible feat four times. Almost comically, Wilt Chamberlain recorded a 60-17 stat line a monstrous 30 times over his career.
His final stat line for the night was 60 points, 17 rebounds and 3 assists. Towns shot 19-of-31 from the field, 7-of-11 from three-point range, and 15-of-16 from the free throw line.
