Golf is an incredibly brutal sport. As one PGA tour player recently noted, every player is only a few swings away from contemplating retirement and they are only a few swings away from thinking they can win The Masters. Well on Thursday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, world no. 1 Jon Rahm missed a putt that would make any PGA Tour player want to quit.

Check it out below as he missed a one-foot putt. That’s not a misprint.

Brutal, just brutal. Rahm has been known to have a really bad temper during his time on the PGA Tour and it’s surprising he didn’t bend his putter in some fashion, to be honest. The missed putt shows just how cruel the game of golf can be at times, even for the best players in the world.

After the first day at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Rory McIlroy currently leads the tournament after shooting a -7 65 on Thursday. The tournament has been very kind to McIlroy in the past, as he’s never missed a cut in his previous seven tries. He also has five Top 10 finishes in the tournament, including a win in 2018. When he’s placing his driver in the fairway, McIlroy shows that he’s still among the game’s best and that happened today.

Rahm has quickly ascended to one of the best in the game

After 17 holes, Jon Rahm currently sits at -1 for his first round. After playing his college golf at Arizona State, Rahm has quickly ascended to the world’s number one ranking in a few years. He’s finished in the top 5 of every major, including winning the US Open in 2021. The breakthrough major victory for Rahm came at Torrey Pines, a course that he’s played incredibly well at in the past. He noted how the cliffs of Torrey Pines remind him of his hometown, Barrika, Spain. Rahm is blessed with the type of all-around game it takes to dominate on the PGA Tour and it’s crystal clear his future is remarkably bright. While his temper has run hot numerous times over the years, he has gotten better about managing it in recent years. The missed one-footer today will be a moment that he’ll want to forget, as soon as possible.
