The Washington Football Team was in danger of trailing the Carolina Panthers as halftime approached. But Washington drove down the field late in the second quarter, ultimately finding the end zone thanks to an impressive touchdown catch from wide receiver Terry McLaurin.

The drive found the end zone when Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke tossed it up to McLaurin, who came down with an impressive 12-yard grab for the touchdown. With a hand in his face and a Panthers defender going for the ball, McLaurin was able to haul in the pass successfully, tying the game at 14-14 with ten seconds remaining in the first half.

The touchdown reception was McLaurin’s third catch of the first half. He is averaging 27 yards per reception, though, as he has 81 yards. Heinicke has had a solid day throwing the ball, completing nine of his 12 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns.

Each of Heinicke’s six completions to players not named McLaurin went to different receivers.

McLaurin’s touchdown continues another solid season with Washington

Despite a revolving door of quarterbacks since his arrival to Washington in 2019, McLaurin has continued to steadily produce. As a rookie in 2019, he caught 58 passes for 919 yards and seven touchdowns. Last season, McLaurin hauled in 87 receptions for 1,118 yards and four touchdowns. Entering Sunday’s game against the Panthers, McLaurin had 49 receptions for 632 yards and four touchdowns in nine games.

In his career entering Sunday, the former second round pick out of Ohio State has 194 receptions on 311 targets for 2,669 yards and 15 touchdowns. Washington’s offense has been inconsistent throughout McLaurin’s NFL career, but that hasn’t slowed him down.

The team tried to get McLaurin some help in the offseason, adding former Ohio State teammate Curtis Samuel. But Samuel only has four receptions this season as he has only suited up in two games. McLaurin is Washington’s only wide receiver with more than 21 receptions on the year.
