Will Richard NBA Summer League debut: How Florida star performed with Warriors

After the Golden State Warriors traded for the draft rights to Will Richard, he got his first opportunity to prove himself as an NBA player. The Florida product made his NBA Summer League debut with the team Sunday afternoon against the San Antonio Spurs, getting the starting nod.
The guard finished with 16 points on 3-of-10 shooting and also added four rebounds, three steals and one assist across 25 minutes played. He even scored the first basket of the night for either team off of one of those steals, and you can view the highlight below.
Richard continued to stay active in the passing lanes on defense and also did a good job of getting to the free throw line, where he shot a perfect 8-of-8. The Warriors lost the game by a score of 90-88 after Richard’s buzzer-beating 3-point attempt that would have won the game bounced off the rim.
Golden State dropped to 1-1 at the California Classic of the NBA Summer League with the loss. Richard did not play in their opening game on Saturday.
The Warrior also got big games out of LJ Cryer and Isaiah Mobley, who finished with 19 and 16 points, respectively. On the other side, David Jones-Garcia led all scorers with 25 points for the Spurs.
Richard’s next opportunity to make an impression with the Warriors will come at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday against the Miami Heat. After that, the team will head to Las Vegas to finish out their Summer League schedule.

In his final season with the Gators, Richard averaged 13.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. He could really fill up the stat sheet.
His size at 6 foot 5 is also decent for the NBA level, especially given his penchant for playing solid defense. He’ll have to hang his hat on his all-around game if he hopes to remain at the NBA level.
Will Richard, though, is a quality shooter. He finished his senior season shooting 35.9% from 3-point range and 84.4% from the charity stripe. Both of those figures are quite competitive.
Richard came to Florida prior to the 2022-23 season, spending three seasons with the Gators as a full-time starter. He initially began his career at Belmont, where he started 30 games and averaged 12.1 points and 6.0 rebounds as a freshman.
