Pro wrestling legend Hulk Hogan died at the age of 71 on Thursday, and WWE has shared its reaction. On X/Twitter, WWE issued a statement on Hogan, who is a two-time WWE Hall of Famer.

“WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away,” WWE said in its statement. “One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans.”

TMZ Sports reported that medics were dispatched to Hulk Hogan’s home in Clearwater, Florida, on Thursday morning. Operators said medics were there due to “cardiac arrest,” and Hogan was carried on a stretcher and into an ambulance.

Police told TMZ Sports officials responded to the call at 9:51 a.m. local time, and Hogan was treated by Clearwater Fire and Rescue before being taken to a local hospital. Additional details about the incident will be provided by police in a press conference later Thursday.

Hulk Hogan became a two-time WWE Hall of Famer

Hulk Hogan (real name Terry Gene Bollea) made a name for himself in the WWE in the early 1980s when Vince McMahon purchased the company from his father. The one event that arguably made him a superstar was WrestleMania III, when he defeated Andre the Giant in front of over 93,000 fans at the Pontiac Silverdome. Before that, Hogan defeated the Iron Sheik to win the WWE title in 1984, and “Hulklamania” was officially born.

Hogan was the face of WWE through the 80s and into the early 1990s. He joined World Championship Wrestling in 1994 and went from hero to villain in 1996 by creating the New World Order (NWO). He became Hollywood Hulk Hogan and went on to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship six times.

During his time in WWE, Hogan won the WWE Championship six times and the Royal Rumble match twice. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005 and again in 2020 as a member of the NWO.

Hogan also appeared in multiple movies and TV shows over the years. His notable films are Rocky III, No Holds Barred and Mr. Nanny, and his notable TV shows are Thunder in Paradise and the reality series Hogan Knows Best.
