Diving into the numbers, it’s clear that Fresno State has had the advantage of playing twice to Oregon State’s once. After having their own blowout by Kansas in week zero, the Bulldogs got back on track with a lopsided win over Georgia Southern at home last week. The Beavers, meanwhile, had a tough showing against Cal and will be looking to get back on track against the Bulldogs.

Key Takeaways

  • Fresno State edges Oregon State in points per game and points per game allowed, but that’s largely due to the Georgia Southern win evening things out. Oregon State struggled to score against Cal a week ago, and the Bears reached 34 points, a number the Beavers will want to bring down.
  • The Bulldogs have found their ground attack early in the season, and average 194 yards on the ground with Bryson Donelson (201 yards, one score) and Rayshon Luke (107 yards, three scores) leading the way. Oregon State, meanwhile, mustered just 65 rushing yards against the Bears, well less than you’d expect from Anthony Hankerson and Co.
  • The Bulldogs have allowed nearly 150 rush yards per game, while Oregon State allowed 122 against Cal. That could be an opening for the Beaver ground game to find some footing.
  • Fresno State has struggled to pass the ball this season, averaging just 177.5 yards per game, and QB EJ Warner has four interceptions against no touchdowns. The Beavers weren’t stellar against Cal, but still managed 248 passing yards in Maalik Murphy’s debut, room to grow, no doubt.
  • The strength of the Bulldogs’ defense, however, is their secondary, evidenced by their 167 passing yards per game allowed. They’ve got experience in the secondary and, despite the blowout to Kansas allowed just 176 passing yards. Oregon State, meanwhile, allowed Jaron Sagopolutele to throw for 234 yards against them in his debut a week ago, a number the Beavers will look to improve upon with their own experience in the secondary.
  • Fresno State has converted nearly 52% of its third-down attempts, while Oregon State was just 3-for-11 (27%) against Cal. Fresno State’s defense has been solid defending third-downs (6-for-21) (28%), but Oregon State was better against Cal, allowing just a 15% rate (2-for-13)
  • Meanwhile, the time of possession figures to be an even battle, with both teams hovering around half of the contest…
