Hankerson, Murphy Named To Maxwell Award Watch List

Oregon State quarterback Maalik Murphy and running back Anthony Hankerson have been named to the Maxwell Award preseason watch list, it was announced Monday. The award is annually given to the top player in college football.
The Beavers are one of 17 teams nationally with at least two selections to the preseason watch list, which numbers 80 players in total. Players do not have to be on the preseason watch list to be eligible for the award, which is now in its 89th year.
Murphy, a junior from Inglewood (CA), is entering his first campaign with the Beavers. He’s coming off a sophomore season with Duke where he threw for 2,933 yards and a program-record 26 touchdowns in 2024. Murphy ranked 13th nationally for passing scores and 22nd for total yardage. Murphy surpassed 200 yards in 11 of 12 games and 300 twice.
Before Duke, Murphy played at Texas out of high school in 2022 and 2023, combining for 477 yards and three touchdowns in seven games, two of which were starts.
Hankerson, a senior from Boynton Beach, Fla, will be wrapping up his final Beaver campaign in 2025. He’s coming off a 1,000-yard season, where he tallied 1,082 with 15 scores. His 15 scores rank sixth for a single season at Oregon State.
Hankerson tallied five games of 100 or more yards and averaged 4.7 yards per rush. He also caught 27 passes for 151 yards.
