Oregon State Lands Cascade Christian Safety Deryk Farmer
The Oregon State football team and interim head coach Robb Akey have landed a Thanksgiving Day pledge on the recruiting trail as Cascade Christian’s (OR) Deryk Farmer joined the fold.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder is expected to play safety for the Beavers, and in high school, played both quarterback and safety. As a senior this past season, playing safety, he saw action in 12 games and tallied 41 tackles, one TFL, and four breakups. In his career, he’s recorded 159 tackles, 16 TFLs, two interceptions, nine breakups, and recovered a fumble.
On offense, Farmer was Cascade Christian’s starting QB for the past two seasons. He’s coming off a senior year where he threw for 1,556 yards (60.5%) and 16 scores against four interceptions. For his career, he’s tallied 3,226 yards (63%) and 32 scores against eight interceptions.
He’s also a dual-threat, having recorded 1,500 rushing yards in his high school career, along with 31 rushing scores. He also spent some time at wide receiver, further showcasing his versatility with 441 receiving yards and four scores. Farmer appears to have Swiss-Army-Knife potential for the new coaching staff, so it’ll be interesting to keep tabs on him.
Additionally, per the Rogue Valley Times, Farmer set the Cascade Christian school record by running the 100-meter dash in 10.96 seconds. He also broke the record for the 200-meter dash, running it in 22.25 seconds.
Farmer chose Oregon State over offers from Princeton, San Diego, Caroll College, & Central Washington. He joins Cynai Thomas, Jeremiah Brown, Kai Wheaton, Braylon Toliver, Adel Dorr, Cammeron Purnell, and Landon Cook.
