Oregon State lands JUCO DB RJ Whitten
The Oregon State Beavers and head coach JaMarcus Shephard have added more depth to their defensive backfield for the upcoming campaign as they landed a commitment from JUCO defensive back RJ Whitten.
The 6-foot, 195-pound College of San Mateo prospect announced his decision on Monday evening, choosing the Beavers over six other offers, including Colorado State and Western Michigan.
Before his time with the College of San Mateo, Whitten was a standout at Folsom High School in Folsom, California, and was previously committed to the BYU Cougars. He also held offers from California and Colorado as a member of the 2024 recruiting cycle.
In nine games this season for San Mateo, Whitten recorded 23 tackles as well as six interceptions and two forced fumbles. The Beavers have found success with defensive backs from the College of San Mateo and surrounding areas in recent years, and Shephard spoke at his press conference on the importance of the Bay Area. Tyrice Ivy, Ryan Cooper, & Alton Julian are some of the recent standouts from CSM.
Matteo joins a 2026 Oregon State recruiting class that signed nine prospects during the early signing period, including cornerback Kai Wheaton, a standout at Allen High School in Allen, Texas.
The Beavers also signed a pair of prospects out of Whitten’s alma mater, Folsom High School, in wide receiver Jameson Powell and wide receiver Jayden Padgett.
The Beavers’ class now has Wheaton, Padgett, Powell, Lance McGee, Jeremiah Brown, Adel Dorr, Jesse Legree, Landon Cook, Caleb Metzner, and Whitten. Stick with BeaversEdge for continuing coverage of Oregon State’s offseason.
