Oregon State sponsors Xfinity Series car for upcoming Pacific Office Automation 147

NASCAR’s Xfinity Series is in Portland this weekend at the Portland International Raceway for the Pacific Office Automation 147. Looking to cash in on additional national exposure, Oregon State University teamed up with the No. 26 Thompson Pipe Group car driven by Dean Thompson for the race.
This will be the fourth edition of the Pacific Office Automation 147 after being run each of the last three years. The 2022 edition of the race was the first race in the Pacific Northwest region since the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series raced at Portland International Raceway in 1999 and 2000.
Over the last three years, the race has drawn local NASCAR fans from the Pacific Northwest extremely well. However, the series is not expected to return to the course in 2026.
“As Oregon’s statewide university, we’re proud to help welcome NASCAR back to Portland and share our pride with the many Beaver Nation NASCAR fans,” Rob Odom, Oregon State’s Vice President of University Relations & Marketing said in a press release from Sam Hunt Racing.
The No. 26 Tompson Pipe Group X Oregon State University GR Supra sports the Oregon State black and orange color scheme with the Oregon State Beavers logo showcased on the hood and the sides of the car. On the back of the car is the “Beavers” wordmark on the bumper. The 26 on the car features white numbers with an initial black and orange outline.
““I’m excited to race at Portland for the first time and to give the hometown crowd someone to root for with the OSU Beavers on the hood of our GR Supra,” said No. 26 driver Dean Thompson.”We’ve really advanced on road courses throughout the year, and I look forward to racing hard for the local fanbase and OSU supporters to bring home a great result. It’ll be a great experience visiting the university on Friday, bringing the NASCAR world to the doorstep of Beaver Nation.”
University branding in NASCAR has become commonplace over the years, including Liberty University being the primary sponsor for NASCAR Cup Series driver William Byron’s No. 24 Chevrolet L1. Other universities to sponsor cards over the years include Grambling State, Texas A&M, DePaul, Richmond, and FIU, among others.
Saturday’s Xfinity Series race is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. local time, serving as a potential appetizer for Oregon State fans ahead of the Beavers’ 2025 season opener on Saturday night against California at Reser Stadium. The race will be televised nationally on The CW.
