QB Braylon Braxton credits coaches and experience for smooth transition to USM

Braylon Braxton was one of the first transfers to Southern Miss when it was announced that Charles Huff was set to become the newest head coach of the Golden Eagles. With spring and summer ball wrapped up, Braxton (SBC Pre-Season Offensive Player Of The Year) hopes that a successful season could see Southern Miss on top of the Sun Belt.
“Winning the conference is everybody’s main goal, and to be able to do it at Southern Miss would mean a lot more.”
A change that Braxton has gotten used to so far during his time in Hattiesburg is working with new offensive coordinator Blake Anderson, which for Braylon has gone well.
“It’s been a smooth adjustment, this is my second time transferring so I just feel like once you do something once, you just have a better feel for it the second time around. Coming over with Coach Huff has definitely made the transition easier as well.
”With over 70 transfers into the program, the Golden Eagles are a completely revamped team heading into this season. Braxton believes that Southern Miss has one of “the most slept on receiving cores in the country” but believes that the most improved position is the Tight Ends, more in particular, Kyrin Heath.
“When we first got here, we had a guy named Kyrin Heath and he has NFL potential. He really took the spring and this summer very seriously and I expect Kyrin to have a huge year for us at the tight end position.”
Braxton was named as the Preseason Offensive Player of the year for the Sun Belt and feels no pressure, saying “Same game, different place. I wouldn’t really call it pressure because this is something that I wanted to do my whole life. I’ve always wanted to be a football player and I wouldn’t want to be anything else.”
Braxton and many other Golden Eagles have one thing on their mind for this upcoming season, and that’s to “Flip the Script.” That starts on August 30 as Mississippi State visits The Rock for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
