If I were to have told you before the season starts that going into game ten Southern Miss would be 7-2 and 5-0 in the SBC, leading the West division, and have an outside shot to the College Football Playoffs, most would have told me that I need to have my head examined. To be honest, I didn’t think the Golden Eagles would be this good. Yet here we are in the midst of the best turnaround in college football this season. After going 1-11 in 2024, in 2025 the Golden Eagles control their destiny at 7-2 with three games left to play. These players deserve a packed house for Saturday’s contest hosting Texas State.

The university is running discout ticket prices to help bring in more fans Last week at Arkansas State the Red Wolves administration did what they felt they could to bring in fans, and as we saw from Coach Butch Jones, he was very unimpressed with the turnout. That should not happen this week. Coach Huff, who in my opinion, should be in the running for the Coach Of The Year Award, made a plea at his Tuesday press conference for fans to show up and be loud. He even talked about traveling across the Sun Belt to other stadiums and his quote was, “There is no place like The Rock. When the Students, DJ Kuhjo, and the band get going, and the fans get into it, there is no place better. There are fans that I look to see at Eagle Walk every week because I know they will be there.” These players and coaches feed off the energy from the crowd. With two games left at home and a road trip less than two house away, the Golden Eagle faithful should show up in masses to support this team.

Seasons like this don’t happen every year. We as Southern Miss fans got used to prosperity about twenty five years ago and it has been a tough bus to ride the last ten seasons. It has beena fun ride this season and there are still some stops to make. It’s time for the Black and Gold faithful to show up at The Rock and remind the SBC just what an addition Southern Miss was to the conference. We know the Rock can be an intimidating place to play. Saturday at 2:30 should be another example of that.
