Staff Bruin Report Online

Bruin Report Online was one of first team sites in existence on the Internet when it launched in 1998 as part of the original Rivals.com network, and it’s been the market leader for UCLA coverage ever since.

Tracy Pierson, Publisher

Tracy Pierson hatched the idea for Bruin Report Online in 1998 and has served as its publisher since. First starting out as a basketball scout and then the director of west coast basketball scouting for Rivals.com, Pierson became a fixture on the recruiting and UCLA sports scene. He was the driving force behind BRO quickly becoming the No 1. UCLA fan site on the Internet. His deep connections to the UCLA community has enabled BRO to be the place where Bruin fans have gone for three decades to get their breaking news, scoops and insider info on UCLA.

Dave Woods, Editor/Beat Writer

Dave Woods joined Bruin Report Online in 2011. Since then, he’s worked as a beat reporter for both UCLA men’s basketball and football. He has also hosted the BROCast, Bruin Report Online’s podcast, since 2012. In his role at BRO, Dave writes previews, recaps, and analysis while also conducting interviews with players, coaches, and luminaries in the UCLA community. A 2008 graduate of UCLA, Dave began covering UCLA sports in 2004 as a writer and editor for the Daily Bruin, UCLA’s student newspaper.

Tracy McDannald, Beat Writer

Tracy McDannald has been covering UCLA and recruiting since April 2022 while also covering high school sports around Long Beach and the South Bay. Before that, he was a senior editor and covered Arizona for the Rivals network from 2011 to 2014 and spent the following six years working for Special Olympics Southern California. He attended Long Beach State upon entering the business.

Alex Mokover, Football and Basketball Stats Writer

Alex Mokover was bored at his investment banking job one day in 2014 and decided to do a statistical analysis of UCLA Football. While Coach Mora did not want that level of in-depth analysis publicly available, Alex has written statistically-focused analyses of UCLA Football and Men’s Basketball for BRO ever since. He is thankfully no longer investment banking, and David Singleton has given him multiple game-worn shoes.

Steve Cheng, Photographer

Steve joined Bruin Report Online in 2014. As a visual storyteller, he brings an elevated artistic sensibility to UCLA sports, creating expansive galleries that offer fans a unique, immersive perspective. A lifelong Bruin and alum, his work at BRO is his way of contributing to the school and community he loves. His credits include the cover photo for the Rose Bowl Stadium 2022 Centennial book. Outside of BRO, Steve spends a great deal of time overseas, and in 2024 completed four marathons in 12 months, including Chicago, Tokyo, London, and Berlin.

Robert Carpentier, Basketball Writer

A native of the New York City area and now tolerating the winters living in the Twin Cities, Rob Carpentier has been writing for Bruin Report Online since Ben Howland’s second season in Westwood.  He was a high school basketball coach for more than a decade, coaching multiple NCAA Division I players and even a couple who were or currently are in the NBA.  While he stepped away from coaching after the birth of his children, he stays involved with the game by working with younger players and writing for BRO. A graduate of Valparaiso University, Rob continues to provide game previews of the men’s team while occasionally offering game reviews.  He was happy with the move to the Big Ten Conference because he knows that he can watch the Bruins live and in-person on a semi-regular basis.
