G-League guard London Johnson signs with Louisville, will join team and redshirt

Former four-star guard out of the 2022 class, London Johnson, who previously made the jump to the NBA’s G-League, has now signed with Louisville basketball, the university announced Tuesday.
Johnson previously committed to the Cardinals on October 20, in a move that was shocking because of its nature. The 6-foot-4 guard is just the second player to join a college program after Thierry Darlan joined Santa Clara’s roster ahead of the ongoing season.
And while Johnson is technically a member of the 2026 class, he will be allowed to join this year’s team. He is currently planning on redshirting while joining the bench this winter and beginning to play in the 2026-27 season.

Statement from Kelsey on the signing and addition of Johnson: “We are excited to welcome London Johnson to our Louisville family,” said Kelsey on the addition. “London is a very talented point guard with size who also has the ability to play off the ball. London brings experience, talent, toughness and a winning mindset to our organization. He is a trailblazer in a lot of ways and has handled the unwarranted scrutiny like the mature, classy young man that he is. In my opinion, he deserves an opportunity to play collegiate basketball like every other player within his five-year window from high school. Times have changed, and we choose to embrace change rather than just complain about it…especially when it creates opportunities for student athletes like London. Like all of the players that are welcomed into our organization, his life is about to change for the better, which is what we do, and we can’t wait to get him to campus to start that process.”
Through three seasons in the G-League, the Norcross, Georgia, native played in 100 contests, averaging 8.3 points and 3.4 assists. In his first two years in the league, Johnson competed with the Ignite team, and by his second year, he averaged 10.6 points, 5.1 assists, and 2.2 boards.
Then, following the disbandment of the Ignite program, he played for both the Maine Red Claw, of the Celtics organization, and the Cleveland Charge. Over the course of the year, he averaged 3.2 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 13.2 minutes per game.
Out of high school, Johnson was a consensus four-star recruit and was one of the top players in Georgia in his class before reclassifying.
According to Rivals, he was the No. 107 overall and No. 19 point guard prospect in the nation out of the 2022 high school class.
