New Mexico transfer DB Nigel Williams commits to Louisville

Nigel Williams, a transfer defensive back from Richmond, Virginia, committed to Louisville today out of the transfer portal.
The 5-foot-11, 194-pound corner recently visited Louisville on June 13.
Williams started his career at Northwestern, where he played four seasons and 15 games before transferring to New Mexico for the 2024 season. Williams only tallied three tackles in his time in Evanston, Illinois. This past year for the Lobos, Williams saw an increase in playing time as he was responsible for 58 tackles, two passes defended, and a forced fumble.
He will have one year of eligibility remaining after using his COVID-19 year in 2020 and redshirting in 2023, both at Northwestern.
Williams is undersized for corner at the power-four level, but exudes confidence, leadership and jumps off the page with his athleticism. He’ll be a valuable piece as a slot corner and on special teams for the Cardinals.
Louisville, Jeff Brohm and co. have now added seven incoming transfers to its defensive backfield.
