Louisville football cornerback Tayon Holloway has been reinstated by the program after assault and domestic violence charges were dropped this spring.

This comes hours after online speculation about the Virginia Beach products’ return to the program was kickstarted by Holloway’s Instagram Story featured him sporting the new U of L football uniforms.

There is currently no number 25 listed on the roster and it should also be noted that Holloway wore number 20 last season.

Sports Illustrated’s Matt McGavic first reported Holloway’s reinstatement and obtained the following statement from a spokesperson with the program.

“University of Louisville student-athlete Tayon Holloway has been reinstated to the football program after the conclusion of his legal matter.”

Just a day after Louisville’s heartbreaking 38-35 upset loss at Stanford last November 17th, Holloway was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor, fourth-degree assault with a minor injury, and domestic violence-related strangulation in the first-degree, which is a felony.

This came after reports showed police responding to a 911 call at an apartment where Holloway and his girlfriend were present. Officers claim that the victim, presumed to be his girlfriend, had a cut on her upper lip as well as puffy eyes from crying.

The victim claims the two had gotten into an argument after Holloway, who was about to smoke marijuana in his room, became “angry and physical” with her after she attempted to grab the marijuana out of his hand. The statement then says Holloway attempted to move her out of the doorway by shoving her off the bed, and then “began to strike her with a closed fist.” In the process, the victim grabbed multiple items trying to protect herself, including a lamp which broke. It’s reported that after throwing the victim “onto the ground” Holloway put a pillow on top of her face and held it for around ten seconds.

That same week, Holloway was suspended indefinitely by the Louisville football program.

The fourth-degree assault and domestic violence strangulation charges were dropped at the beginning of April. However, Holloway was convicted of disorderly conduct in March, but the charge was dismissed after good behavior in June.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound corner transferred from North Carolina before last season, and in 2024, he totaled 16 tackles, five passes defended, and one sack. Holloway was not with the team this spring and is still not currently listed on the roster, but after his convicted charges cleared up, he is set to rejoin the team this season and could be at fall camp starting July 30.
