Portal Watch: Early names that could be of interest
While the transfer portal does not open until January 2 a lot of players have already announced their intentions to go into it. That means that we are still a number of weeks off from Kentucky’s activity in the portal but the coaching staff is monitoring and evaluating the players who say they will be going in.
There’s not too much information to go on now, but here are some of the expected portal entrants who could be of interest to the Wildcats so far.
Truman State defensive back Dominic Grand
Grand is a 6’2, 190-pound defensive back from Truman State who was an all-conference pick this year. He had two picks and 16 PBUs. Grand has one season remaining wherever he transfers.
Nebraska Kearney DB Xavier Wells
Wells will have four years of eligibility wherever he transfers. He had a number of smaller school offers as a high school prospect coming out last season from Lake Belton in Texas. He has picked up some smaller and JC offers since announcing he’s going into the portal.
Grand Valley State DT Jibriel Conde
Kentucky will be looking for some help on the defensive line in the portal this offseason Conde is a big interior defensive lineman with length from Grand Valley State and he has two seasons remaining. He already has early offers from Auburn, TCU, Syracuse, and Michigan State.
Slippery Rock DB Kanye Thompson
Thompson has run the 100-meter dash in 10.13 seconds, which is the fastest time in PSAC history. He’s an accomplished track star and that speed is coveted by college coaches now that he’s in the portal. He’s been one of the most popular early entrants to the portal among defensive backs with offers from Boston College, Boise State, Temple, Memphis, USF, Kansas, Ball State, Pitt, Charlotte, Syracuse, Marshall, and Tulsa.
