Finley Bizjack scored 25 points on 9-for-18 shooting and Michael Ajayi added 17 points and 14 boards to help Butler beat previously unbeaten UVa 80-73 in the Greenbrier Tip-Off on Sunday.

The Bulldogs (5-1) shot 48 percent from the field, outrebounded the Cavaliers (5-1) 43 to 39, and only trailed for 23 seconds.

Butler, which led by two at the half, also got 10 points from Jalen Jackson and 10 rebounds from Jamie Kaiser in the win.

UVa had four players in double-figures, led by Malik Thomas’ 24 points. It was the 24th time in his college career and the first as a Wahoo scoring 20 points or more. Jacari White added 14 points, going 4-for-6 from long range, after not scoring during the team’s win over Northwestern on Friday. Chance Mallory scored 11 points and Thijs De Ridder added 10.

Ugo Onyenso had eight blocks and seven boards in the loss.

The Cavaliers trailed by as many as 11 and the Hoos didn’t take their first lead until there was 16:41 left to play. But the Bulldogs, led by Bizjack, kept scoring in the half court and in transition.
