In their last tuneup before the exam break, the Wahoos did what they were expected to do on Tuesday night, as Sam Lewis scored 15 points and No. 24 UVa hit 11 first-half 3s in an 84-60 win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

The Cavaliers (9-1) used a bevy of runs, including an 11-0 spurt prior to the under-12 in the first half and then a 15-2 run over 3:15 leading into the under-8 in the second half to make it look easy against the Hawks (4-9). They also had a 23-0 run at one point.

In addition to Lewis, the Hoos also put Thijs De Ridder (13 points and 6 boards) and Chance Mallory (10 points and 5 assists) in double figures.

Leading 46-32 at the half after shooting 57.9 percent from long range on 19 attempts, UVa cooled off considerably in the second half. The Wahoos made just two of their 12 attempts from beyond the arc. Yet, they were able to lean on their overall talent advantage despite not really dominating too many categories. They outrebounded the Hawks by three and only had four more bench points than UMES, which had a 36 to 32 advantage in points in the paint. The Wahoo did block seven shots, including four by Johann Grunloah and three by Ugo Onyenso.

After making 12 3-pointers in a row between the end of the Queens game and wins at Texas and over Dayton in Charlotte, Jacari White saw his school-record streak for consecutive made 3s end early in the first half. He finished the game 1-for-5 from beyond the arc.

The Hawks didn’t have a player score in double figures and were led by both Jaden Cooper and Josep Locandro, who each finished with nine.
