Deciding to sign an undrafted free agent deal with the Denver Nuggets, an NBA franchise which didn’t have a pick in this year’s draft, turned out to be the right decision for ex-Cyclone Curtis Jones who is signing a two-way deal ahead of the 2025-26 season.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard put up big numbers for the Nuggets’ summer league squad in Las Vegas, Nevada, averaging 15 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists while knocking down 47-percent of his attempts from long range.

Jones left a lasting impression on Denver’s front office, closing out summer league play on Friday night with 22 points, five rebounds, and eight assists. He also knocked down 9-of-16 shots from the field and was 4-of-9 from long distance in 29 minutes of action.

The Minneapolis (Minn.) native earned honorable mention honors from the Associated Press this past season and was also named the Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year and All-Big 12 First Team selection. He was the first player in league history to earn both in the same season. Jones led the Cyclones in scoring with 17.4 points per game, while connecting on 88 3-pointers this season.

Jones came off the bench in 25 games as a fifth-year senior, averaging 17.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.0 steals per game. His 17.2 points per game off the bench were the most in the country for anyone coming off the bench.

It marked the conclusion of a stellar two-season run in Ames for a backcourt player who began his college career in the JUCO ranks and later at Buffalo before transferring to Iowa State ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

Jones was one of two former Cyclones to sign undrafted free agent contracts with NBA teams this summer, joining point guard Keshon Gilbert who inked with the Washington Wizards.
