Iowa State Players Earn Big 12 Weekly Honors After Win Over K-State

The Cyclones were awarded multiple Big 12 Conference weekly honors Monday following its 24-21 season-opening win over No. 17 Kansas State in Dublin, Ireland.
Marcus Neal named Defensive Player of the Week
Sophomore defensive back Marcus Neal Jr., making his first career start, led the Cyclones with eight tackles, tying his career high, and set a personal best with 1.5 tackles for loss. He made several key stops, including a fourth-and-one tackle in the second quarter.
Aiden Flora named Special Teams Player of the Week
Redshirt freshman Aiden Flora handled both punt and kick return duties and contributed as a gunner on the punt unit. Flora recovered a fumble after a muffed Kansas State punt and averaged 28 yards per kick return.
Dominic Overby named Freshman of the Week
Redshirt freshman receiver Dominic Overby started his first college game and caught his first career touchdown on a 23-yard pass to open the scoring for Iowa State. He finished with two receptions for 29 yards.
Defensive line honored as Defensive Line of the Week
Iowa State’s defensive line held Kansas State to 110 rushing yards, with no individual Wildcat gaining more than 51 yards. The group held quarterback Avery Johnson to 21 rushing yards and combined for 1.5 tackles for loss. Ikenna Ezeogu batted down two passes, one of which was caught by an offensive lineman.
