Iowa State to decline postseason bowl invitation

Iowa State has notified the Big 12 Conference that it will not play in a bowl game, the school announced on Sunday.

Athletics administrators and members of the former coaching staff met with players Sunday morning to discuss the team’s ability to participate in postseason play. After the meeting, players voted against accepting a bowl bid, citing a shortage of healthy players needed to practice and compete safely.

“We respect and support the players’ decision,” athletics director Jamie Pollard said in a statement. “Our student-athletes have had an incredible season, and we are grateful for their leadership as we worked through this process today.”

Iowa State finished the 2024 season with an 8-4 record.

Shortly after announcing the decision, Iowa State was fined $500,000 by the Big 12.
