Iowa State’s Brahmer Named Semifinalist for Mackey Award

Iowa State tight end Benjamin Brahmer has been named a semifinalist for the John Mackey Award, which is presented annually to college football’s most outstanding tight end. He is one of eight semifinalists, including four from the Big 12.

Brahmer, a junior from Pierce, Nebraska, is having a career season as the Cyclones‘ leading receiver. He has 33 receptions for 388 yards and a team-high five touchdown catches with two games remaining in the regular season. He has also scored twice on two-point conversions, which are not included in official statistics.

Brahmer has posted three games with at least five receptions. He had five catches for 75 yards against nationally ranked BYU, and recorded a season-high seven receptions with two touchdowns in a win over South Dakota.

He is the first tight end to lead Iowa State in receptions this late in a season since Collin Franklin did so in 2010, finishing with 54 catches.
