Iowa State’s Jada Williams named to Nancy Lieberman Award watch list

Iowa State junior point guard Jada Williams was named Monday to the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Award watch list, announced by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
It is the first time Williams has been included on the preseason list, which recognizes the nation’s top point guard in women’s college basketball.
Williams joined the Cyclones this offseason after playing her first two seasons at Arizona. The Kansas City, Missouri, native led the Wildcats in scoring last year with 12.7 points per game and recorded a team-high 87 assists. She started all 30 games and ranked second in the Big 12 in free-throw percentage at 86.2% (75 of 87).
The 5-foot-8 guard scored in double figures 23 times and led Arizona in scoring in eight games. She set career highs with 25 points and seven rebounds in a game at Utah on Jan. 31.
As a freshman, Williams earned Pac-12 All-Freshman Team honors after averaging 9.5 points per game, the third-highest scoring average among league freshmen.
Iowa State hosts UW-Oshkosh in an exhibition game Tuesday at Hilton Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The Cyclones open the regular season Nov. 3 against St. Thomas.
