Iowa State’s Tamin Lipsey named to Naismith Trophy preseason watch list

Iowa State point guard Tamin Lipsey has been named to the Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Men’s College Player of the Year Watch List presented by AXIA Time.
Lipsey is one of 50 players nationally named to the list. It marks his third preseason honor in recent weeks after being selected to the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Watch List and the 10-member All-Big 12 Preseason Team.
The junior missed both of the Cyclones‘ exhibition games due to injury but is expected to return for the season opener.
Last season, Lipsey was a semifinalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award and a finalist for the Nolan Richardson Award, which recognizes the player who serves as the heart and soul of a winning team. He earned All-Big 12 Third Team honors and was named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team for the second straight year.
Lipsey reached a pair of career milestones last season. On Feb. 22, he broke Monte Morris’ career steals record with the 226th of his career. He became the 35th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points on March 4 against BYU.
He is one of 26 players in men’s college basketball since 1947–48 to play 100 games and average at least 10.2 points, 4.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. Lipsey averaged 10.6 points, 3.1 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals last season.
