Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht was named Thursday to the Manning Award watch list, joining 26 other signal callers from across the country. The Manning Award, presented annually to college football’s top quarterback, factors in both regular season and postseason play.

Becht is one of seven Big 12 quarterbacks honored. Last season, he passed for 3,505 yards, ranking No. 11 nationally, with 25 touchdowns. He also rushed for 318 yards and eight scores, helping lead the Cyclones to a program-record 11 wins, a Big 12 championship game appearance and a Pop-Tarts Bowl victory over No. 15 Miami.

An alum of Wesley Chapel (Fla.) Wiregrass, Becht delivered when it counted, orchestrating four game-winning drives in 2024 where Iowa State took the lead with under two minutes left—at Iowa, UCF, Utah and against Miami. He has led the Cyclones to five comeback wins in his career after trailing in the fourth quarter.

Becht enters the 2025 season with a school-record streak of 18 consecutive games with a touchdown pass, the longest active streak in the nation. Over the last two seasons, he has helped Iowa State to 18 wins, marking the best two-year stretch in school history. He is one of only two Cyclone quarterbacks with multiple 3,000-yard passing seasons, joining Brock Purdy.

Iowa State opens the 2025 season Aug. 23 against Kansas State in Dublin, Ireland, at the Aer Lingus College Football Classic.
