Wake Forest’s Davaughn Patterson and Connor Calvert picked up weekly ACC honors for their performances against SMU.

Patterson is the defensive back of the week. The redshirt sophomore was all over the field with seven tackles, 1½ TFLs, three pass break-ups and a forced fumble. Per Pro Football Focus, Patterson’s overall grade for the game was a 91.3 — which is the highest of any defensive back in the country who played at least 25 snaps (Patterson played 63).

Calvert made Wake’s walk-off field goal, from 50 yards. The redshirt freshman who transferred from Washington State made the Deacons’ first field goal of at least 50 yards since 2014. It was Wake’s first walk-off field goal since 2015, and first walk-off win since 2021.

Wake Forest has a 5-2 overall record and is 2-2 in the ACC. Saturday’s 13-12 win against SMU snapped the Mustangs’ 11-game regular-season ACC winning streak. It was also Wake’s first ACC home win in two years.

The Deacons are one win shy of bowl eligibility with a five-game November coming up. Home games remain against UNC and Delaware; first, the Deacons travel to Florida State this weekend and go to Virginnia, one of two teams in the ACC without a league loss, on Nov. 8.

The other team unbeaten in ACC play is the one Wake Forest lost to at home in overtime, Georgia Tech, with a missed offside call costing the Deacons the win.
