Pair of Deacons pick up weekly ACC honors

Wake Forest’s Demond Claiborne and Chris Barnes picked up weekly ACC honors for their big games at Oregon State on Saturday.

Claiborne was named the league’s running back of the week for his 144-yard performance. It’s the second time this season he’s picked up that award.

Barnes is the league’s rookie of the week for his three-catch, three-touchdown game. Barnes had 102 receiving yards and another 63 yards on kickoff returns.

They were a couple of the standouts in Wake’s 39-14 win at Oregon State on Saturday. It was the Deacons’ second straight road victory and pushed their record to 4-2.

Wake Forest is off this weekend before playing host to SMU on Oct. 25.

Receiver – Desmond Reid, Pitt.

Offensive lineman – Blake Miller, Clem.

Defensive lineman – Peter Woods, Clem.

Linebacker – Kyle Louis, Pitt.

Defensive back – KP Price, BC

Specialist – Nolan Hauser (kicker), Clem.

Rookie – Chris Barnes (WR), WF
