Duke makes quick work of Howard

DURHAM – Duke scored nine points before attempting a 3-pointer, shot 67.7% in the first half and eviscerated its second low-major opponent of the weekend.
The Blue Devils beat Howard 93-56 on Sunday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
No. 5 Duke (7-0) has played five low/mid-major teams this season. The Blue Devils have won by an average of 46.6; this 37-point margin was the smallest of the five.
This latest demolition saw the Blue Devils leading 52-18 at halftime. There was never a lopsided run in the first half until Duke scored the last 11 points going into the break. Otherwise, there were three 7-0 runs — fitting for a Sunday afternoon in NFL season — and a 9-0 run.
Isaiah Evans had two early dunks; the first was a 2-on-1 fast break after Cameron Boozer threw him an in-bound pass from Duke’s baseline.
Howard coach and former Blue Devil Kenneth Blakeney called a timeout 90 seconds into the game, with Duke already leading 5-0.
By the under-8 media timeout of the first half, Duke led 29-13. By that point, eight of Duke’s nine rotation players had scored.
The one who hadn’t scored, Cayden Boozer, had four assists.
Cameron Boozer led Duke with 26 points and 12 rebounds, his fourth double-double of the season. He was 10-for-12 from the field.
Patrick Ngongba II scored 16 and was 8-for-9 from the field. His only missed shot was a 3-pointer. The sophomore center was coming off a career-best 17 points against Niagara on Friday night.
