Jon Scheyer agrees to extension with Duke

Jon Scheyer is entering his fourth season as Duke’s head coach and he already has a second contract extension.
Scheyer and Duke agreed to a two-year extension that takes his contract through the 2030-31 season. The school announced the news Thursday afternoon; it was first reported by ESPN.
“Jon’s remarkable impact over his first three seasons has positioned Duke Basketball for sustained excellence, and we are proud to ensure his leadership well into the future,” athletics director Nina King said through a news release. “He has delivered championships and national prominence, and he continues to lead a program built on character, connection and a relentless pursuit of greatness.
“Jon’s vision for Duke Basketball aligns perfectly with our highest aspirations, and we couldn’t be more excited for the future of this program under his leadership.”
In three seasons under Scheyer, Duke has reached one Final Four, another Elite Eight, won two ACC tournament championships and an ACC regular-season title. His 89 wins in his first three seasons are tied for the most in men’s Division I history. Brad Stevens and Brad Underwood also won 89 in their first three seasons at Butler and Stephen F. Austin, respectively.
Scheyer’s last extension was announced on the day of Countdown to Craziness two years ago (Oct. 20). That was a night in which Duke hosted Cooper Flagg and his family on a recruiting visit. Three sophomores of the current team (Isaiah Evans, Darren Harris and Patrick Ngongba II) were also present.
