Todd Pelino wins weekly ACC award
Todd Pelino was on the field for a field goal attempt three times against North Carolina on Saturday. He only had one official attempt, a 33-yard make, and was named the ACC’s specialist of the week.
That had everything to do with the 26-yard run by Pelino on a fake with about 2½ minutes left in the game. One play later, Anderson Castle punched in a 1-yard touchdown run that was the difference in Duke’s 32-25 win at UNC.
It was the first fake Pelino has been involved with during his four-year Duke career. And it’s the longest run by a kicker this season.
Aside from the 33-yarder and the fake, Pelino also suffered a roughing-the-kicker penalty in the first half. That extended a Duke drive one play, as the Blue Devils threw a 14-yard touchdown pass immediately after.
