Day 11 camp report

I have no idea how people enjoy this weather.
BC had to grind through another sweltering morning for practice 11 on Wednesday. These are truly the ‘dog days’ of training camp and it showed at times. For the most part, the Eagles have had consistently good practices, but this one just felt a bit off.
Here’s how it went down over by The Res:
Early observations
Full pads, but it wasn’t the most physical day – probably by design – with another practice on Thursday before a fairly important scrimmage on Saturday. Arizona Cardinals scout was also in the house.
Situational work early
Bill O’Brien and the staff continue to be extremely detail oriented. First period was a little bit of work towards the end of the game with a lead, running the ball out, getting down and ultimately closing wins. Jordan McDonald had a couple good carries, as did Alex Broome. Edwin Kolenge also blew up a run in the backfield at one point as well.
Kickoff
I know it’s repetitive at this point, but they have at least four guys that can do it and do it well. It should be VJ Wilkins’ job if not Cam Martinez like last year, but don’t be surprised if Bo MacCormack gets a chance too, he continues to show up whenever he’s given an opportunity. More on him in a bit…
7-on-7
Lonergan: Out to Jaedn Skeete (best player on the offensive side all day), hitch to Franklin, drop by McDonald, nice grab by Dawson Pough.
James: Deep out to Ismael Zamor, out to Kaelan Chudzinski, out to MacCormack, absolute dime for a deep ball TD to Skeete.
Lonergan: Hitch to Franklin, phenomenal grab on the run over the middle by Skeete.
James: Hitch to Zamor, incompletion deep (well out of bounds)
Team period
Lonergan: Outside run for McDonald, short completion to Chudzinski over the middle but he’s hit by Omarion Davis; ball picked by Carter Davis on the deflection…short pass to McDonald for no gain, quick pass to Bond.
James: Run stuff by Vaughn Pemberton, great ball to Chudzinski on a deep out, screen for Broome, false start, hard run by MacCormack, tackle in the backfield for Ashton Cunningham.
Arjona: Out to Chudzinski, short run, QB scramble.
Quick observation during some punt return work
This is where things really felt a little off as at one point, even the jugs machine briefly wasn’t working properly for the height and distance. Also, credit to Trevor Hass, who looked over at the other field and noticed the QBs working on bad snaps in an interesting drill. It would actually come into play later on…
Team period (coming out)
Lonergan: Quintayvious Hutchins batted ball, swing to McDonald, run stuff by Bam Crouch, short to McDonald, false start, tight coverage by Max Tucker on a deep-ish ball to Skeete (ball moved to the 50), Omar Thornton blows up a run, short pass to Broome, deep crosser to Skeete down to the 27-yard line, hard run by Broome, scramble, short first down run by McDonald, swing to McDonald, run stuff by Sedarius McConnell and Hutchins, out to Bond down to the three-yard line, TD catch for Zeke Moore.
James: Big gain for Brady Clough (wide open) across midfield, (missed the next snap), short completion to Chudzinski, interception for Davis as James is hit/stripped by Cunningham and the ball flutters up, big run by MacCormack with a chase-down by Davis, short run by MacCormack, Tim Hays shuts down a swing pass, slant to MCLaughlin, short run by Broome, incompletion through the back of the end zone, incompletion in the end zone.
Arjona: Two or three bad snaps by freshman DJ Williams on the drive was really the biggest story. Big runs for Anthony Ferrucci as well.
Situational work
Fitting bookend with the detail-oriented approach. O’Brien had the QBs work on killing the final few seconds of a game on fourth down before conditioning.
Back at it for another hot one (can’t wait for normal person weather next week) on Thursday, same time, same place.
