Boston College's ;ast day of training camp (By Kevin Stone - 8/21/25)

We made it.

And yes I mean we.

The camp grind is officially over as BC wrapped things up with a third straight practice on Thursday. Now, it’s all eyes on the opener at Alumni next Saturday against Fordham.

As always, here’s everything we saw up on the hill…

Early observations

Joe Dailey was back and I spotted two NFL scouts. One had a Washington pullover on, couldn’t tell the other one, possibly San Fran? No pads for the final day after, which is no real surprise given how intense Wednesday was.

Team period (coming out)

Lonergan: Out to Lewis Bond; run by Jordan McDonald; slant to Bond; run by Alex Broome.

James: Run by Broome; short pass to Kaelan Chudzinski; out to Luke McLaughlin; out to Ismael Zamor.

Team period (ball at the opponent’s 40)

Lonergan: Incomplete high for Bond; no gain on a run by Broome; Max Tucker PBU vs. Jeremiah Franklin; good run by McDonald; great diving grab deep down the left side by Zeke More; McDonald stuffed on a run.

I think I lost track of who was repping here (last day of camp for me too, definitely wasn’t on my A game), but did see a couple short runs by Bo MacCormack, a catch by Brady Clough and an out to McLaughlin in-between conversations.

Team moved into some punt work and Andy Quinn was hitting bombs. Gotta believe that unit is infinitely better than it was last season.

7-on-7

There wasn’t a ton here and I was catching up with Zack Cox of (now) The Boston Herald for a bit…

Lonergan: Short to Bond; deep ball overthrow to Jaedn Skeete; short pass to Ty Lockwood.

James: Hitch to Chudzinski; short passes to Clough and Zamor. Lonergan struggled with deep balls both in this period and throughout the day. James had a tough day as well overall.

O’Brien wasn’t happy with the energy or execution from guys to this point and called the team up at midfield and let them know it before a water break and getting back into the rest of practice.

Team 3rd down work

Lonergan: Short pass to Bond; sack by Kwan Williams; swing to Broome for a first down; scramble for a first down.

James: Battled ball by Caden Bowling (LB); first down to Chudzinski; first down to McLaughlin on a crosser (X2); first down to Semaj Fleming.

Arjona: Scramble; offside; incompletion to MacCormack; batted ball by Israel Oldipupo.

Field goals

Luca Lombardo was 2-4, Liam Connor was 3-4 and I’m pretty sure Sam Stone only got one attempt. Truly no idea who takes the first PAT or FG attempt next Saturday. Still leaning Lombardo.

Team red zone period

Lonergan: Short gain to Bond; wide open TD to Franklin at the front right pylon; slant to Bond; run stuff Chuck Naaeto; Syair Torrence blows up a screen; swing pass TD to Broome

James: Hard run by MacCormack; Owen McGowan picks off a screen pass; dropped snap for James; no gain MacCormack; sack Sterling Sanders; incompletion in the end zone.

Lonergan: Slant TD to Ty Lockwood; TD run by Lonergan.

James: Incompletion to Zamor; tipped ball INT for Tucker.

Team period (coming out)

Lonergan: Short run by MacDonald; completion to Bond (probably should have been picked by Thornton); Bond drop; short run MacDonald; quick completion to Bond (X2); overthrow to Harris on what would have been a wide open TD; run Lonergan; quick pass to Bond; crosser to Franklin; false start; hitch to Bond; MacCormack run stuffed; MacCormack short TD run.

James: Short run by MacCormack; deep INT for Ashton McShane (thrown right to him); (missed next snap); incompletion deep; tipped catch by Dawson Pough (sick concentration); (missed this snap); run James; out to McLaughlin; short pass to Chudzinski; batted ball by Chris Marable Jr.; short run McDonald (X2); McGowan run stuff inside the five.

End of game situational work (run on field goals)

Lonergan: Crosser to Bond; Luca Lombardo hits 35(ish) yard field goal.

James: Crosser to McLaughlin; Liam Connor misses field goal wide left.

We’re officially on to the 2025 regular season. Mercifully.
