Good back & forth again for BC in 4th training camp practice

Keep stacking days.
It’s one of those sports cliches that ultimately ends up becoming extremely valuable.
You hear it often in football this time of year. Teams that find a way to improve in at least one area every single day in August are probably going to have a chance to win most games they’re in. Those that don’t can get off to slow starts and fight and uphill battle all season long.
After its first physical, high-intensity practice on Saturday, Boston College needed to follow it up with the same type of practice on Sunday morning, only a little more business-like.
They did just that.
While there’s still lingering questions in terms of what things will look like against Fordham in 27 days, the two things that aren’t in question are effort and attitude. The defense is fast and relentlessly physical through the whistle every single play. Both lines have been strong in their own ways at times and the QB competition is making every position group better, particularly the tight ends.
Here’s how it looked on another beautiful day outside Fish:
First team period
Noticed a Cowboys scout early on during indy and stretching. Haven’t seen a ton yet but I’m pretty sure the Giants and Jets were there recently too…
Grayson James: Short completion (I think to Anthony Ferrucci with a good stick by freshman LB Griffin Collins), combo run stuff for Bryce Steele and Kwan Williams, short run for Broome, swing to Broome (mqjor face mask by Ashton Cunningham
Dylan Lonergan: Dart on a seam to Reed Harris, chunk gain on trick run, hand off to Jordan McDonald for about five yards, Owen Stoudmire blows up a screen in the backfield.
Second team period
Little bit of a walkthrough before the next team period…
James: Run by Turbo Richard (good hit by Carter Davis), nice concentration grab on the sideline from Lewis Bond off a tipped pass by Isaiah Farris, Favor Bate shuts down an outside run, incompletion out in front to Ty Lockwood, run by McDonald, chunk gain to Kaelan Chudzinski off play action.
Lonergan: Great bounce out and run for Broome, scramble, hard run and finish with the shoulder by Broome, sack for Ty Clemons, Omar Thornton smokes McDonald in the hole, Jeremiah Franklin up the seam for a nice gain.
When I happened to glance over at the other half of the field where Enzo Arjona was running the show Mekhi Dodd had a couple nice runs.
Live field goal period
Well, this is probably the biggest question on the team other than QB. This period wasn’t pretty. Liam Connor, Luca Lombardo and Sam Stone all had chances to kick from the left and right hash as well as down the middle from like, 35-45 yards out. Guys rotated, so this is just a summary of their kicks…
Connor: Shank left, good, good, no good, no good (blocked but with no rush, so I’m pretty sure it drilled a defender’s helmet), good, no good.
Lombardo: Good, good, good, couldn’t quite tell on the last one from our angle.
Stone: Good, good, good (barely over the crossbar).
Results based it should probably be Lombardo, but with 27 days to go none of them made the strongest case based on how the kicks looked. This one may come down to game week and even then it might not be fully solved yet. Something to keep an eye on.
7-on-7
James: Slant to Brady Clough, short pass to McDonald, dart to Ismael Zamor (tight window along the sideline with Syair Torrence and Charlie Comella closing), hitch to Luke McLaughlin, deep post TD to Jaedn Skeete after he got behind Marcelous Townsend, hitch to Ty Lockwood.
Lonergan: Hitch to Harris, slant to Harris, PI on Torrence (Harris would have had a deep TD), hitch to Bond, tight window throw to Clough, incomplete pass to Dawson Pough after he fell down on the route.
Third team period
Emphasis on certain downs and distances here…
James: Hitch to Franklin, incomplete slant to Bond (a little out in front), short to Lockwood, incomplete pass to Harris (fell down).
Lonergan: Incomplete short to McLaughlin (in front), ‘sack’ for Chris Marable Jr., out to Chudzinski, short pass to McDonald.
Arjona: Hitch to Chudzinski, out to freshman Stevie Amar Jr., short run for Dodd, PBU on a crosser by Farris.
Final team period
After some punt return work on both ends of the field it was on to the last bit of team…
James: PBU for Townsend, false start, short pass to Zeke Moore, low snap by Tommy Matheson (Princeton transfer), two runs by Broome (second was another hard one, James also checked into it at the LOS for a chunk gain), short pass to Pough, combined run stuff for Bate and freshman DB TJ Green.
Lonergan: Sack by Bate, Torrence blows up a run and then a screen, short pass to Lockwood, combo run stuff by Daveon Crouch and Jason Hewlett Jr., nice grab falling down on the sideline by Bond, run stuff by Marable Jr., Crouch sack (maybe with Farris too).
Arjona: Huge run by MacCormack, breaking tackles and leaving defenders tugging at his jersey (highlight of the day honestly), sick one-handed INT for Collins (might have something there), false start, hard run by Dodd, incomplete swing pass.
Sideline-to-sideline sprints to wrap up Day 4. Off day on Monday before going back-to-back Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Wednesday’s practice is scheduled to be inside Alumni.
