Dylan Lonergan enters transfer portal
In a somewhat stunning turn of events around 6:00 p.m. on Thursday night, Dylan Lonergan announced on Instagram that he was entering the transfer portal after just one season with the Eagles.
“Thank you Boston College for the opportunity to play and grow as a player and person,” he wrote. “I’ve decided I will be entering the transfer portal when it opens. We didn’t get the results we hoped for this year but very appreciative to my teammates and coaches who never stopped battling and the BC community and fans for all the support.”
Lonergan’s arrival at BC was met with great enthusiasm after he came over from Alabama. Early on – especially in the Michigan State game – it appeared as if BC truly had its QB of the future. But, Lonergan’s play drastically dropped off and he and Grayson James ended up playing musical chairs at the position the rest of 2025.
Ultimately, Lonergan’s brief BC career ends with him throwing for 2,025 yards, 12 touchdowns and five interceptions.
Now what?
That’s the big question. Obviously, Shaker Reisig is the team’s current QB1, but with no true game experience, a portal solution has to unquestionably be coming, if not more than one. Having said that, Reisig has been here since bowl game prep last year and would be able to jump right into things, presumably able to function well in the offense (depending on who is left on the roster at the skill positions).
New GM Kenyatta Watson has quite a lot of work to do once the window opens.
