It was an interesting start to a big week for the Eagles early in 2025.

Starting quarterback Dylan Lonergan wasn’t present after a four-touchdown debut last Saturday in the opener. Last year’s starter and current backup Grayson James looked good for the majority of Tuesday’s first practice as preparation got underway for a prime time, national TV spotlight at Michigan State.

Head coach Bill O’Brien quickly shut down any idea that Lonergan would miss any time.

“He’s doing good. Little extra day of treatment, needed some extra treatment on some things, But, he should be good to go for Saturday,” O’Brien said. “No specific deal, just needed a day of treatment, so we decided to do that and he’ll be out there (Wednesday).”

A few observations aside from that:

A big return

Owen Stoudmire was back in the middle of the defense for the Eagles on Tuesday. It was a great sight to see after the scary moment he had back during training camp. They’re also going to need him in a big way (literally and figuratively) on the road this weekend.

Quick recap

A lot of scout team as you’d expect. KP Price had an early interception on a James deep ball during the first team period. James bounced back with throws to Turbo Richard and Luke McLaughlin. During 7-on-7, he had completions to Franklin (2) and a bullet over the middle to Kaelan Chudzinski before a couple completions to Lewis Bond his second ‘series.’

Coming off the 5-5/190/1 performance in the fourth quarter of the opener, if Lonergan can’t go for some reason and James is QB1 on NBC, the offense should be fine and

Is special teams fun again?

Shamus Florio and Andy Quinn can kick the crap out of the ball.

Now, I will always preface special teams talk acknowledging I am obviously no special teams expert and we also know the staff has the team working on certain types of punts…but, when both of them are able to just let it go, there’s some moonshots in there. Special teams was above average in Week 1 and could play a big factor in a tough environment.

I’ve also already publicly declared Bo MacCormack will run one back this season on a kickoff. Not sure when, maybe in East Lansing, but it’s coming at some point.

Big day Wednesday

BC will have its second of three practices this week Wednesday morning. Obviously, all eyes will be on the QB position, but with a travel day Friday, the details in preparation over the next couple of days will be key to success Saturday night.
